Default New Brunswick: Hunters bring down 3,686 moose

The most startling number is the hunter success rate...82.7 % ..That's must be like shooting fish in a barrel. Isn't the success rate here in Ontario something like 38%..(Bull)..

A preliminary count of moose harvested during this year's hunting season was released Monday, and it's up slightly from last year.

Hunters brought down 3,686 moose during the season that ran from last Thursday through Saturday, according to the Department of Energy and Resource Development.

That's up 156 animals from the year before, which means 82.7 per cent of the hunters chosen during this year's moose draw went on to kill a moose.

According to provincial records, it's the third-highest number of moose killed in any hunting season in 59 years of keeping track.

I remembered reading about that not long ago..I was surprised because Native rights is a federal issue and they don't recognize borders...but yea

" No court has yet recognized any Métis community east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. The Quebec government, as well as the Métis National Council, do not recognize the existence of Métis communities in the province, but Corneau and other members of the community are looking to the courts to assert rights under section 35 of the Constitution to continue using and occupying their camps in order to exercise hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering practices.

Quebec's Office of the Minister responsible for Indigenous Affairs told CBC News that there are no Métis communities possessing constitutional rights in the province. The Métis National Council also does not recognize the community."

Sounds like they limit the hunt to about 4200 hunters.

For most wmu guns season opens well after the rut which greatly impacts moose success rates,
and i could only imaging they dont give out 75 000 calf tags a year give or take like Ontario dose, for the last how ever many years.

    A lot less moose hutners?

Theres over 100,000 moose hunters in Ontario.

If 3800 moose is 80% of the moose hunters in NB, they arent even in the same ballpark.
