    good dog and so glad you were able to recover him. its a horrible feeling to know that you did hit the deer but there's no sign of a hit anywhere. best case scenario!

    I had a similar shot outcome but the deer was quartered slightly toward me so I entered behind the shoulder and deflected off the far rib cage. The arrow turned and then cored the deer, heading toward the groin. No exit wound obviously.

    That's a great dog to have!!! Loved the write-up and the outcome.

    Great story,on the deer he looks like an old guy from his muzzle color and I believe the rack declines in size after their prime.In relation to the scrape I saw one a full 3 weeks ago that was freshly made.

    Just spotted this thread now. Congrats on the buck. Very odd deflection but it seems you always have the right tool for the job on hand. In this case, a handsome pup. Well done
