Well, this year, it just had to be ME...
Had a stupid, slow-motion fall from my bicycle yesterday, landing on my right side and bruising the ribs badly. Can't even raise a glass to my mouth or sit in the chair without extreme pain, never mind shooting a gun.



Let this be a reminder to everyone to be extra careful in everything you do these days.
If you've had this type of injury before, please chime in and give me some hope that I will be alright soon!!!
Bruised ribs twice in my life. Once maybe 25 years ago and again this summer in July. First time was worse than the second and took about 6 weeks to get back 100%. This summer was not as bad and took about 3 weeks to heal up. Sounds like you have a bad case so count on 6 weeks. Might be okay by the time deer gun rolls around. Definitely for late season bow.

13 years ago I had an accident and almost lost my left hand at the wrist. It happened 2 days before the start of deer season. I remember trying to hold the gun and could not do it at all. But yes I regained the use of my hand but I was very very luckily I had severed about 75% of my main tendon. At first they thought I would be lucky if I was to regain 50% of it again but I think I regained 95%.

There's never a good time to get injured, but ribs, ya recoil would do you in and put you back greatly so accept your recovery rate and don't rush it.

Just remember that the worst of it is now. Even if you aren't 100% in a month or so you're still going to be much, much better than you are today. I've cracked a few ribs in BJJ and it wasn't so bad. It gets better each day.
A few years ago I tore the labral cartilage in my shoulder in BJJ two days before bow season. That one wrote the entire season off on me.
Take care of your self. I'm sure you'll feel a whole lot better in a couple or so weeks than you do now.

hope you feel better soon. best not to push yourself in these situations. short term gain is long term pain.

There are wraps you can get that will help ease your pain and give you support. Get over nighted to you and at least be more comfortable.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

I swear the older you get gravity becomes stronger ! Sorry to hear of your mishap especially at this time of the year. Hopefully between heating pads, painkillers and whatever the local witchdoctor can do for you you'll be back in the game soon.

Many years ago, I broke my collarbone playing hockey. I went deer hunting the following week. As we were driving between Dryden and Fort Frances a huge buck crossed the road and stood in the ditch. What should have been a dead deer turned into a cluster- and the deer bounded off unharmed. Although I had a broken collarbone, I hunted all week and was prepared to shoot from my off shoulder. As it turned, I never had the opportunity.

Age factors in when healing. This summer I fell through some rafters at camp onto the shed floor and a little scratch on my leg turned into an infection that lasted 7 or eight weeks. So cheer up. I'm sure you'll be ready just in time to shovel snow this winter.
