soggy day

With my luck, the days i book off work to hunt in october are either too hot to hang a deer or soggy rainy days. I'd much prefer the latter for a deer hunt as the hot days I save for small game or waterfowl.

Wondering your tactics for rain like tomorrow's forecast. I plan to sit out at the edge of a bunch of ever greens overlooking a freshly cut soybean field that sets against a pinch point and bedding area. Instead of sitting in the blind I'll be throwing the guillie suit to blend into the evergreens. I'll mostly just sit down and do my best to shut up with the occasional doe bleat and super light rattle--maybe once or twice at most in an hour.

I am sure some guys will agree, others will disagree, so be it.

I have been told there is no reason to hang deer.

Until this year I have always just field dressed the deer, then washed it out and took to the butcher, Homestyle Meats in Dorking. A couple of friends have volunteered to teach me how to break down a deer this year, one guy even has a permanent pole in his yard. I am looking forward to some different cuts, etc. I may still take some to the butcher; but with my own grinder and sausage stuffer I plan to do some experimenting.

Dorking! actually not too far from where I am.

the guys at J-mar might be a little miffed if i take my deer there as I am a loyal customer good point though.
