Keep shooting 70yds with a crossbow or any other bow for that matter and it won’t be long until you join the “unrecovered club” that I can assure you....
Nevermind that you’re taking “quartering to” shots. Not a good plan at 20yds let alone the length of a football field.

Play the long distance game on a target and save your Robin Hood prowess for archery competitions.
As far as bow effectiveness on turkeys there is no comparison to a shotgun. Bang stick wins every time.

You’re talking to a bunch of pretty ethical fellas on this forum so slow things down abit and enjoy the sport how it was meant to be played.

I can shoot a 100yds with my Hoyt compound but I can promise you it’s into foam not meat. There’s enough yahoos running around the woods as it is, they don’t need more members....

Ethics are personal, I do not agree with taking a 70 yard shot with my bow personally but I also do not agree with a 700 yard shot on an elk but that is due to my skill level, my equipment and my personal opinion, someone else would be perfectly find taking a shot that I would not consider.

Please step back and realize that your ethics are yours.

Sorry not a chance on 70yrd quartering towards you shot with a bow. Thats a wounded deer waiting to happen. I respect the game i hunt too much not to say something!

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

agreed, but so many would have nothing important to do if they couldn't preach at us as to why what we do is wrong.
I wouldn't take a 70yd shot either, but obviously for the OP his choice resulted in a quick kill and good for him.

Maybe a quick kill this time but I guarantee you not very often at 70 yards. Still takes his arrow nearly half a second to reach his target at that distance. I'm with KK1 on this one 100%!

There is hunting and then there is killing..... With a bow, I prefer the nice close and personal encounter ...

70 yds, quartering to you, not the best target..... certainly not a shot to brag about or encourage.....

    Agreed with you 100%.

This is a quite interesting thread, from a get go.........we have a quite excited hunter ,alongside of telling us about his success, also somehow "selling"the Scorpyd to the public.IMHO.
Then we have replies, and then we have replies on replies.
Some try to talk about ethics in hunting, some tell the person who is talking ethics-that the ethics is his own and should not talk ethnics!Wow-quite a turn.
So the person telling ethics is not to tell about ethics-but the person telling the other person not to talk ethics(even though he was never brought in the story-just having post on the subject, out of the blue).never realize that what he is doing is somewhat worse then talking about ethcics!!!
    WOW.

Now-if i made this rather confusing ,yes ,i wanted to-but if you read it carefully ,and follow the thread all the way-you will understand it.

For the shooter-just my 2 cents.First of all ,great deer, congratulation.
You hunt the way it makes You feel good about it.

Keep in mind ,a slow walking deer will move in 0,5 sec exactly 0.7 m.This is how long it takes your crossbow to send the bolt to the deer.
Very seldom they stand for very long, and very seldom the wind in negligible.
So-0.7 meter in a deer size target is most likely a wounded deer(or better -a missed deer).A hit deer which may or may not be recovered.
I am not talking ethics(because by now we know it is personal, and it is no ones business to try to talk about it-so we were told)but the deer are living beings. As such they deserve some respect.

We were taught (way back, when they were teaching hunting ethics in hunting courses)that a hunter should always strive for ethical shot.

Now,to each their own. This is just my opinion.

However this statement -The only real hunting is the one that's legal and fills your freezer-which is at the end of Your posts- is only 50% correct.
Hunting is a WHOLE lot more then filling the freezer!
    Just think about it..............

And by the way-there is no crossbow ever better then a shotgun.Even a Scorpyd at mere 2000 $.
They both have their place in the hunting field, and the shotgun can and will do everything a crossbow will-and then some. Not so much the crossbow.Any make ,shape and price.
And that is not an opinion.

Just for records,I do love crossbow-hunting.
