Default Feb 3rd was slower day

Finally got to head out with my friend Brad for a morning of fishing for whitey's and trout.
Apparently this area was hit pretty hard all the auger holes from Sunday remained open, the holes from Saturday was easily accessible. Every 100 feet or so was an open hole so I went the morning just hoping holes. Moved about 7 or 8 times without cutting my own holes. Not till the last move I drilled a few holes.

Anyway the day started out fast with a me getting hooked up and landing a nice 24 inch fatty before brad even got a line in the water lol. I just went to the nearest open holes[emoji1787][emoji106]. We think it was going to be a stellar day as 2 minutes later I marked another it didn't stick around and neither did the fish. For the next little while not many fish came around Brad saw 2 and marked 2 or 3 uninterested fish tho. I made a small move to where I have good success in the past. Marking a few more fish then my spoon rod got tangled up with my other line, who ever drilled the holes had them a little two close together lol.

Anyway as started to bring in the tangled line I get a fish rise up so a tangled up line and I'm working this fish. I can feel the weight of the spoon and cant really locate the bottom but I kept trying finally got a tap and it was a miss lol. That spot died and we decided to move up the bank Nd try there. This spot was marking better but most were in active I missed another and finally landed a second one a 1030 and that was it there another fat 25 inches. These goby fish are starting to pack a punch on these fish it's like a free buffet all day .
We decided at 1130 to try where I got tangled up for the last little while . Not much again missed on more tap just as we were packing up . Was definitely a tough morning but all in all good one.

Funny story so I drilled a hole 2/ 3rds of the way down clean it out and snapped the neck, to bleed it and put it in the hole. It filled with water about an hour or later brad thought it was going down the hole as it gave a few more kicks into the water lol. So carrying this fish one hole to the next the dam body fell off lol. Now I have this fish I cant pick up so the next fish i just pulled the gills as always.

So far this season I'm at 12 whitties and 1 trout iced for the 4 mornings out .
Next week I will be targeting some jumbos .[emoji106]

Hope everyone is having a great season.

    Nice catches, FF.

I heard that the whities are, on average, much bigger this year than in years past.

I'll be heading out to try and ice a few with my daughter in a couple of weeks - can't wait!

Good luck when you head out.

I think the goby is making a big impact on most of the fish nowadays. Many of fish have taken them on as a primary diet they are plentiful and perfect size.

What I think is happening the fish are getting bigger faster because of it. The goby can breed multiple times a year leaving and endless supply of food without wasting energy on chasing the shinners.

Mind you parts of the lake they are still feeding heavy on the shinners. But the majority of the food source is coming from the goby .
