CZ 550 fs?
Does anyone have any experience with cz 550? I'm looking at quality and accuracy? How would they compare to a Sako or weatherby? Any comments are appreciated.

sgb, i have a CZ 550 in .375 H&H. I have used it mostly on dangerous game in Africa and even a whitetail here at home as well. It has performed flawlessly for me and i am quite happy with it. The bolt was a bit stiff when it was new, but quickly worked itself in. As far as accuracy i consistently get 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds, so it shoots quite well. Quality and finish are what i would expect for a rifle in that price range.

I own a CZ 550 FS in .270. With the 20" barrel, this makes for a comfortable throw up to yer shoulder and take aim. Mounted with a Zeiss Conquest 2-7, the weight would be probably considered on the somewhat heavy side as compared to many of these new light weight rifles currently available. The Mauser action once broken in ( some may even want to lap the bolt/ action) is as smooth as any Mauser action that I have handled. As I do not own either a Sako or a Weatherby, I cannot comment on this. In my opinion this is a good investment. Accuracy is more than adequate for a hunting firearm, once you find ( or load) ammunition that it likes. As I am not a long distance shooter, the 20" barrel is not a concern as it might be for others, as well as down range energy from the shorter barrel. I am realistic on my abilities for shooting a longer distances, and self impose what I consider my maximum range that I am capable of dependent on the circumstances at the time. Hope this opinion helps

I don't use a .308 but I do use the .30-06. If I were looking to hunt moose with a .308 I'd just load any premium 165-grainer and let fly. Barnes TSX or TTSX, or Nosler Partition. Very expensive but good bullet is the Swift A-Frame. You can get good velocity, good trajectory and penetration. I do know that one fella in my brother's hunt group has dropped several moose in their tracks with a well-place 150-grain Core-Lokt. Another friend who has shot about 25 moose with his .308 uses Winchester 180 Silvertips, which are no longer made, but can be found. I mean Silvertips, not Ballistic Silvertips, of course.
RE: the 550, I owned a regal .30-06 for a while. Loved the trigger, and it was accurate, but I liked my old Model 700 enough that when I thinned the herd, the CZ was sold. Nice rifles though, and I would LOVE exactly what you got. A full stock .308 or 7mm-08 would be awesome!
