Moose Management changes 2020/2021

I wonder how far back they go , I have purchased moose tags about 10 times over the last 20 years.
Never been sucessful yet.

They are apparently going back to the beginning of the present draw system...

Rick, I think there's two sides of that argument. While I agree habitat created through logging is good thing, it also means more road access for hunters thereby lessening places moose have to hide.

If the tags issued to licensed hunters are based on success rate management with available road access then it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s what we can’t manage that is the problem not the logging roads.

Judging by what I am reading only cow or bull tags will reset your points not calf tags??? Points will be awarded based on the total number of years a hunter has applied and been unsuccessful in the draw. Continuous applications aren’t required. Being issued a bull or cow tag through the draw or receiving a tag transfer will reset a hunter’s points to zero in that year.

I hope that’s how it works. Was wondering how they would handle the calf tags.

Does anyone know the answer to this? or the best place to send emails for questions?

This is straight forward, if you applied the last 5 years you have 5 pts. Now, if you applied the last 2 years, skipped a year (didn't apply)then appiled the two previous years to the skipped year. Would you have 2 points or 4 points?

I would think skipping a year would restart the point count?

What is your opinion on changes? Some I like, others not so much. Not being able to put in as a group for a guaranteed tag will hurt the most in 2021. I do like the addition of some new bow hunting opportunities, but at $200 a bull tag plus licence will take some getting use to.

Thank you Deer Hunter it was a very Memorable hunt. Many unanswered questions that we will have to wait to find out. I do recall reading in the preliminary talks about this new system they were including surplus tags and outfitter tags as a re-set of saved points. Hopefully this is not the case.

I like this new system except it should have been implemented before the moose population has gotten into trouble. The selective harvest was supposed to increase the number of moose, but it didn't and nothing was done. That is what's sad.

Maybe I am wrong in what I have read/interpreted but it appears you do not have to apply every year to maintain points. Seems odd if that is the case. Most other jurisdictions you need to apply every year to maintain your eligibility. Seems the current approach of not losing points until you take a tag will make it hard to predict what points you will need each year to draw a tag in a unit. Based on what they have proposed seems like someone who hasnt purchased or applied in 5 years will be able to come out of the wood work and get a tag o or the guy who has applied every year. Going to make it hard to guarantee a tag. As there will be unknowns

Still someone right now may have applied the last 6 years then not apply for 5 then come out of the wood work. Do they have 6 points?. Do points remain with u until u draw a tag? Lots of jurisdictions make u apply every year or buy a point to maintain your status.
