Default Crystal Lake (near Kinmount) Ice Fishing Tips

My family has been on the lake for over 10 years now, been out on the ice three times. Caught a couple smallmouth and the occasional walleye, thatís about it. Tried anywhere from 30-75í mostly on the west end of the lake.

Anyone have any luck for lake trout or whitefish? The MNRF has them listed in the lake along with cisco but Iíve never encountered any. Iíve heard the main basin is the best part to try through the ice. North of Peters Island.

Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated, hoping to find those elusive cold water species. Thanks!

I haven't fished it for years but we sued to put our huts by the dam off Crystal Lake Road and did well for cisco and lakers.

They move around and because the lake is small a hot spot is spooked pretty quick. Try navionics and look for mid lake humps adjacet to deep water. We did very well last year in one spot off of Clear bay with Lakers and Wallies in same spot but this year nothing and not from lack of trying. Going again this weekend we will see. Whities are December when ice is just forming they spawn and then are gone.

Thanks Camp, maybe see you out there this weekend. Planning on going up for the weekend. Any idea how the ice is? Thinking of accessing by the dam to get to the main basin.

never caught a whitefish but lots of ciscoes that were fairly large 1 - 1/2 lb. We fished on the bottom with spreaders and live or salted minnows. Caught both trout and ciscoes this way, all in 50 - 60 ' water.
