Sail has filed for Bankruptcy protection --but that does not mean the store is closing up----Sail has some real upsides --their prices for fishing gear-rods- reels-waders- lures--is usually the lowest in town compared to other stores--the same with their hunting clothing and guns --very little mark up --usually very fair with exchange policies etc --being shut down for two months has really hurt the company -not to mention new stock has not arrived. The one problem with Sail is that it is a Quebec company and when I say that it is not to be disrespectful other than to say Quebec companies do business differently. As someone who worked at Sail, one of our biggest grievances with company came down to stock. They wanted every store to be exactly the same and refused to listen from any of their sales staff. We had lures in our store that sat for years on the shelves and would never sell tacking up space. Yes that may sell in Quebec but not in Ontario. Some stores should have had greater terminal tackle geared for species of that particular area such as lake Ontario salmon or Erie walleye and the brass refused to listen. Lost count of anglers looking for walleye rod and reel combos for dipsy or lead core fishing and we had none in stock. Had they listened, fishing sales could have increased easily by 20% at all stores. That is just one example and yes people have complained for the longest time about ordering from online and again they turned a deaf ear to it. One can only hope they make the proper adjustments in time to continue on in the Canadian market and thrive.

I never saw anything at Sail I couldn't get elsewhere....there really is not that many suppliers of outdoor gear on the market. The Canadain Tire 'Hunting Store' has all the same products and far better sales and availability. In fact the Hunting section at Sail was a relatively small area stuck in a corner upstairs. They seemed to concentrate more on clothing etc down on the main floor. ..like LaBaron's used to do. Expensive clothing for a rather small client base.

I finally got out to the Fence Store in Cornwall last summer... a real gem of a place, some great staff and good prices on a wide range of hunting stuff. Wish it was closer.

I guess most of you fellas down south, would know more about Sail, than I? I've been to two of the stores, Oshawa and Burlington and neither impressed me by any stretch. Too artsy-fartsy and the only people I saw in there were oohing and aahhing over the kayaks and other preppy gizmo's? I prefer stores that don't have a dress code to get inside!

I was holding my breath when Bass Pro bought them. I have never liked Bass Pro online shopping, the prices are in USA currency or their produce line for the most part. Glad nothing changed for Cabela's after the purchase. I have never shopped Sail but sad to hear they closed. Sadly there will be more closures to come due to Covid-19 I'm afraid
[COLOR=#000000]I agree 100%. Unfortunately SAIL was not prepared for e-commerce once COVID hit and that miscalculation cost them a LOT of business. In early April SAIL had Micro cell cameras on sale for $169.99 and I wanted to pick up a couple so I emailed them 3 times and did not get one response back. I contacted Cabelas and forwarded them the link to the sale price on the camera and they beat the price my 5% and was glad to take my order. Before the BPS/Cabelas merger I ordered lots of gear from Cabelas.com and it was consistently cheaper (even with exchange), had a better selection, and most items were better quality than BPS.

I also experienced several other retailers that were struggling with e-commerce during this pandemic:

    IKEA
Canadian Tire (although they eventually got it together)
    Rona
    TSC
    HBC

This is going to extend well beyond the Outdoors market.

My wife and I were just talking about this the other day about the effect that the Covid-19 will have on gas prices, groceries, etc. once the dust has cleared, it will not be pleasant.

Or buy the stuff you want right now before the prices and taxes go up.

I was just in there today. They aren’t shutting down. The company is re structuring only. I asked about what’s going on. Walked out with a new pair of lacrosse rubber insulated boots 1000g on sale though.
