It would seem that the reason why the like/dislike function was removed was because it attracted more negativity than positivity, and it ultimately discouraged Forum users from posting.

I think your own earlier post sums it up nicely...If there's a like, then in all fairness you will need a 'dislike'...those that are pushing for this might think twice if they know they could receive negative feedback as well.

However, if it really did discourage some user on here from posting, would that be a bad thing ?
