Default I'm ready, scope and gun dialed in for 300 grain TTSX

Got to range yesterday for a quick shoot with my smokeless capable muzzleloader. Tried the Barnes original spire point and they stank out of my gun.

I decided to use the 300 TTSX this year for the hunt. Adjusted scope accordingly and it was another windy day but did ok.

Well first two weeks of deer hunt is done. This bullet took two deer and one coyote.

First deer was 191 yards using range finder after shot and second was 82 yards both DRT.

The first deer was an offhand shot quartered away which hit the femur dead on and punched through that and through rib cage exiting just behind left shoulder leaving 1.5" exit hole.

Second deer I had a rest but had to reach out around a tree to get the shot. Knew I was going to eat the scope a bit because I could not set it properly in my shoulder. 3/4 inch gash between my eyes was result but perfect double lung shot placement.

    Neither animal took a step.

The coyote ranged at 194 yards.

Overall all could not be more pleased with the rig. Bullet was great and extremely dependable. I may slow it down to 2500 fps if I can keep accuracy good. Terminal effects were great.

Our gang got 5 total 1 doe 4 bucks. One 9 point was taken with a savage 10ml-II at 130 yards. 250 grain accutip did not exit.

Thanks yes we saw a lot. A bit more than last year I think. Population has come up a bit. We have two weeks to whack yotes before ML season. Hopefully we will trim the trees so to speak.

You have to be careful here. I am running smokeless capable muzzleloader, not black powder or substitute. If you have a smokeless ML pm me and I'll share load info. Otherwise if you are shooting black powder or substitute you can also pm me and I'll share what I know with regards to appropriate powders.

Next season I am planning to tweak my Savage 10MLii and try to get better 100 yard groups. I know the gun is more than capable & I need to try bullets other than the .300gr Hornady XTP's to achive better accuracy. I will pick up some of these when I'm in the states in a few weeks...
