When the T8s first came out you could replace a T12 with them but not any more. My wife starts her own seedlings and at one time had over forty lamps in use, all forty watt T12's. Now it's hard finding the tubes at a decent price ($2 each). During the last year I scrapped half a dozen 96" fixtures because of tube cost......
