Algonquin Park, July 2013
Late report, but what a trip. I have always wanted to camp/canoe/kayak and fish in Algonquin Park and the opportunity finally came up to get in a few days on the water. I brought along my wife and father, so it was not the backcountry trip I've always yearned to do, but it was a great start to what I hope is a long list of adventures there.
Since I knew we'd need some amenities with the wife along, I chose a camping spot right along the water on Pog Lake. Having done some research I knew Pog was not a fisherman's haven, but it was a short paddle up the Madawaska river to Lake of Two Rivers where I could expect some lake trout action.
The weather and conditions couldn't have been better, even if I'd had the power to control them. Clear sunny days with no wind, then just enough of a breeze in the early evening to keep the very few mosquitos we saw at bay.
It was the 2nd week in July and the heat made finding lakers tough, but in 3 1/2 days of paddling I did manage to bring two to the kayak, both caught on the troll and both in Pog Lake of all places. Both were around 22 to 24 inches. Photobucket is being picky and I have been unable to upload video of the lake trout. May just do it through Youtube. Lost count of all the little rock bass I caught in the Madawaska. Will bring an ultralight rig for them next time. Rounded out the last day with paddle trips on Opeongo Lake and the Ox Tongue river.
Will be headed back to the Opeongo during the fall color change to take the water taxi to the end of the lake and spend the next two days paddling and fishing back to the landing. I am hooked for sure.

Sadly, i haven't been up that way in awhile.
