The Obituary...my 2016 ML deer

He was by far the most photogenic of all deer I have had on the trail cams this fall. Nice local deer, odd rack on a rather large deer. He sure liked his apples, which will make the meat that much better.

Unfortunately for him, he allowed himself to fall into my 'perfect hunt scenario' which is; the best deer is the one that shows up at 2:00 pm.

The shot placement; once again my preferred neck shot, dropped him in his tracks.

Shot with my Traditions Pursuit .50 cal in-line.

Point of interest; the bullet never exited. I found it under the hide on far side. So that bullet expending all it's energy inside the deers neck, maybe 6-7" wide. Amazing damage done.



Why do I like the 2:00 pm kill...this guy was in the barn, skinned and hung by 3:30 (note the daylight out the door).

I've let the meat harden up over night to make the butchering a little easier in morning.

note: I'll add this pic...it shows the view from the treestand. The deer came in from the top of the pic and was shot over my left shoulder. The 2nd arrow on the right points to the scent bucket that was burning the Deer Quest 'Estrus" stick. He was looking for the source when he gave me the perfect broadside shot.




Wraps up one of the best ML seasons I've hunted in years. The weather was perfect, the deer were moving, the Bucks were still in rut and responding to the scent sticks. All in all, one to remember.

I should also add this pic...this is the recovery method I use back in the bush. The Otter sled pulls great behind the ATV and makes it easier to haul a deer out in a wet environment. The sled is floating here.

Also gives a better perspective on how big the deer was.
