I communicated with an OFAH representative today regarding this issue. I expect that we will receive clarification on the positions of CTC and the OFAH on this matter early in the coming week.

Did you point out that the fur in those stores was in all likelyhood, NOT even from this country?
Nice pictures of Canadian mammals in the PETA stuff.
Just very brief communication to ensure they were addressing the issue.

    Well - sort of!

Peta, Forechange and others really jumped the gun on this one in reporting that Canadian Tire and all their subsidiaries have banned fur due to their tireless petitioning efforts. In fact, this is VERY far from the truth! These groups are only using this as an excuse to raise money and claim a (very weak) success. Fact is, the stores are just adjusting inventory to what consumers want.

It is only TWO subsidiaries that are no longer "bringing in new stock of fur". Those are SportChek and Atmosphere - stores that had very little fur in the first place, and their statements are really not very strong - in fact they made it clear that the decision was NOT for ethical reasons, just for sales inventory reasons. If the fur isn't selling then they arent going to bring in more fur.

Direct Quote: "[COLOR=#000000]we are not fur free yet – but haven’t purchased any product containing fur this year. We are always evaluating product choices, depending on what customers are asking for. If people are asking for warm coats but fur free coats, that’s what we’ll go for. We do not have plans to add anymore animal fur trimmed products to our inventory at Sport Chek and Atmosphere locations."

That said, Canadian Tire does call themselves Canada's Hunting and Fishing Store... so should be supporting the fur industry IMHO.

To be clear too, it's not the OP that has it wrong, rather it is the idiots at places like PETA who want people to believe that they had anything at all to do with this decision as a way to justify donations.
PETA and their ilk remind me of terrorist orgs that claim every bombing, mass shooting are their work, especially, when it's obvious they're NOT. These outfits are after publicity, claiming false victory where none exist just to dupe a gullible public to gain funding.

It wouldn't hurt one to send CTC an e-mail to let them know that one supports the fur industry, and if indeed the corporation did/does end the sale of items made with fur, for ethical reasons, ones patronage would be in jeopardy. I just did.

    Can't win for losing smallgamer.
    We just can't win.
    I adore fur.
Sable. Ermine. Mink. Fox. Pine Martin.
I also love good quality leather and some exotic skins.
    Ban fur.
    Ban leather too
    Ban UNETHICAL fur.
Not all fur is taken using unethical means.
This is an argument that has been going on for decades.
Both sides have some valid points.
It is a personal issue and one that is never going to go away.
PETA does a lot of good...but they aren't perfect either.
I agree with what you have said here, except for the first part of your last sentence. However, I stand by my suggestion to contact CTC. If they choose to ban "unethical" fur, let them tell us so. But it is my understanding that one of the brands affected is Canada Goose. Anyhow, the OFAH representative I have been communicating with (today as well), has assured me that the org will be making queries to ascertain the authenticity of the anti-fur groups claims, and go forward accordingly.

    Very good small gamer.
    Well done!

    Kudos to you.
Yes, your suggestion to contact CTC is a fine one and I agree wholeheartedly.

A search of the 130,000 items available online revealed a handful of faux fur
products but nothing came up as being real fur including the trapper hat. So, some truth to it.
    Same with Mark's.

Actually, now I'm trying to recall ever seeing taxidermy mounts in their stores or just the fake decoys?

Answered my own question. They have a couple...lol
