I am looking to buy the Diana LP8 but can't seem to find a dealer. Is there one out there? also do you need a license for these? I have a PAL and will like to use it for Grouse while hunting deer

It is a pistol, if you need a PAL for it then you would need an RPAL, register it and use it at a certified range only.

Apparently they made a detuned version at some point that had it under 500 fps which would make it a non-firearm but I don't see any for sale online.

Did you ever consider using a reduced load or possibly a shot load in your deer rifle to the same purpose?

Just had a look at a couple of the places I've bought airguns online and neither list this pistol. I did read-up on it a bit, and it unless a de-tuned version was made for some reason, you couldn't use it here for grouse hunting. Over 500fps=firearm in Canada, so it's restricted. Can't use a restricted gun to hunt with, etc.

However, there are options. The thing is, a spring piston gun (like that LP8) is the most quiet type of airgun, making it good for that purpose. Issue is, with pistols...they seem to be over the 500fps mark, or frustratingly UNDER it. Lots of guys talk about the Crosman 2240 being a good, inexpensive option but CO2 is louder, and performance really drops-off under about 16C in my experience. The "fix" for cold weather shooting is to keep it in a warm spot (in your coat) until you're ready to shoot.

The only air pistols I own are a 31 year old Crosman 1377 that still hits hard, and, an original Webley Tempest (made in England) that I will NEVER sell. To me, it would be the best sub-500fps pistol to get. I believe they're made in Turkey now and are likely very good still...but used original ones come up for sale all the time. Nitro piston is the quieter of the non-CO2 guns but I don't know what they would have in a pistol under 500 fps.

There are a few single pump pistols at 495, 22cal is even better, more energy for the speed.

GrouseWhisperer this Webley Tempest looks like a interesting air pistol, what type of accuracy could one expect from this model and does it have enough power to take a rabbit or grouse? This might make for a nice trail gun.

Sorry for the delayed reply, haven't been on the forum for a little bit.

Mine (As mentioned) is an original/made in England but from what I've read, the Turkish ones are about the same. As for accuracy~everything I need a pistol to be. They're very well made, well-loved, sought-after in the used market. I could sell mine today for $100 more than I paid for it, easily. (never will) I doubt accuracy would be your concern, whether or not 400-ish fps velocity is enough? For noodle-shots on a grouse, yes. Rabbit? I have my doubts...but I don't hunt rabbits either. The pistol is compact, balances extremely well, decent trigger, is very quiet=lots to love.
