    Default Squirrel Hunting

Hi folks. I'm looking for someone who is an expert on squirrel hunting. Particularly if they tend to employ some unique tactics (ie. something other than just walking through the woods looking for a squirrel). I'm doing some research. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

If you are hunting them just for meat then I found baiting them in with bird seed (primarily sunflower seeds) in a spot where you are in a ground blind works best. Even better when you set up on the slope of a hill so you are aiming down to the bait at the bottom of the hill. If you plan on hunting them for sport, hardwood forests are best to walk through and spot and stalk them, use a squirrel call to hone in on their location.
I love hunting squirrels, quite challenging and they taste great when prepared correctly.

Something I gotta try. Can't think of a better way to spend a morning than sitting in a hardwood forest with a fine 22 .

I must admit it is one of my favorite hunts. Also, a good meal of squirrel is hard to beat.

They usually get active in the morning. If you know where they are sit tight and they show up.
I like eating them, taste like rabbit IMO.

All you have to do is...its quite simple...setup in the treestand I used for deer. Go out with the intention of hunting a deer then everytime you hear a deer and turn around itll turn into a squirrel. After about 2 hours you should have about 15 of them from my experience.

I used to thin the population before deer season to limit the distractions during tree stand sits and BBQ them for snacks, it's been a few years but I'm sure this still works. They'll often times get wise to hunting pressure and hide in the tree motionless until you leave so either walk away from the tree you suspect them in but look back for heads watching for you to leave or if you know which tree he's in take a rock and bang the trunk, the vibration makes them move and lets you get a shot.
