Tick and Lyme disease?

Im hearing lots about ticks in southern parts of the province and appreantly lyme disease is on the rise. I am planning to travel for fishing during the spring. Would ticks or Lyme disease be a cause of concern or is just the media blowing things out of proportion?

The answer lies somewhere between the extremes. As with all outdoor activities its about risk reduction. If your going to be in an area with ticks take precautions simple as that.

We have hunted the same area in southern Ontario for a number of years now, and last year was the first year ticks were ever seen (By us). Three ticks latched onto two different hunters. We were in the area for 5 days. One hunter had the tick tested and it was in fact the type/kind/species that can carry Lyme disease, but was not infected. Based on that experience we will be taking precautions for ticks...

Here's a good indicator as to how it's spreading.....

This is just south of our borders, so you know it's the same here. My vets office is 20 minutes south of here and they say 1:5 dogs are now testing positive for Lyme disease.

There are bears where I moose hunt and ticks where I turkey hunt.
i don't worry about them, I take appropriate precautions and enjoy my hunt.

Just picked up some Ultrashield EX from TSC. Figuring on using it this year for sure. Both me and the dog. Better save than sorry...

Going to go pick some of that Ultrashield EX stuff as well and give it a shot this year. Every time I go Turkey hunting at the farm I end up finding a few ticks on me trying to catch a ride home. Hopefully this stuff keeps them away.

They are thick where I frequent in eastern Ontario. I was diagnosed with Lyme last summer and never saw the tick bite. Worth taking some precautions and doing regular checks.

I used permethrin spray last year 10 days turkey hunting where I had picked up ticks in previous years. No ticks came home with me last year.
