In 2011 only 61.1 % of Canadians voted in the federal election. Harper was the PM after 39.6% of those voters put him in power. But I guess it is OK to overlook that.

There is a reason why they do not want the death penalty reinstated, because those people are from the countries you mention, and are now living in Canada.
I was born here in Canada and am one of those that would and will vote to bring back the death penalty if the choice ever arises so would my family after we discussed the issue.

MONTREAL — Each prisoner in Canada’s 54 federal penitentiaries costs taxpayers $117,788, up 46% from a decade ago, says a new report.
A federal public safety ministry document says federal corrections spending reached a peak of $2.7 billion in 2013, or $1.1 billion more than in 2002-2003.
There were 2,082 more inmates serving sentences longer than two years compared with a decade ago.
Five-hundred additional corrections officers were hired to watch them, the document said.
Canada’s worst criminals are more expensive to house than other inmates, costing taxpayers up to $151,000 a year.
Just think of what 2.7 billion dollars would do for the poor or when added to healthcare.

I wasn't overlooking anything? I simply stated that the libs gained their majority with far less than a majority of voters. Yes, the Cons did also. And that is what is wrong with our system.

I feel as many do, that spending you life locked up is more of a punishment than the mercy of a painless death by the needle.

Sorry , I got the feeling you were implying that it was only bad when your party does not win.

Just for the heck of it, I spent some time and phoned 10 friends of ours and asked if they were in favour of bringing back the "death penalty ", guess what I got a 100 percent vote in favour of !, Imagine that 100 PERCENT!

I wonder how they'd feel if someone was executed and an hour later was found to be innocent? Personally,I don't have the faith in the legal system to trust it.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

In this day and age with forensic investigating, DNA results etc., do you seriously even consider that it could happen? not bloody likely!
