Janetville area turkey hunting ... help please

hey folks,

new to the turkey game... always outdoors but just picked up turkey hunting about 3 years ago .... originally from northern Ontario i'm living in the Janetville area and am learning quick that it helps to know farmers or people with private property for hunting... i've knocked on a couple doors but the land is already hunted out... so i've basically stuck to un assumed roads and un posted property which I think is crown....

any advice to areas around Janetville that are larger bush areas where I can set up? Or know a farmer? lol I've looked online to try to find crown land maps but my technical abilities I guess are limited because i'm not finding what i'm looking for ....

any help is better than no help, appreciate your time

Well the best way to go about it would be to get to a area you believe turkey should be just before day light. Sit and listen for gobbling them move in to were you hear him set up and start calling softly .

been there done that a couple times... unfortunately I can get as far as the private property sign or the fenced off area to where the hardwoods are lol

I would strongly suggest you know 100% that the land you are hunting on is crown and not private, just because it is not posted doesn't mean you can hunt it if it's private!!! That statement "I think" is going to have most guys on this forum shaking their heads and is a massive issue of what is wrong with today's turkey hunter (and an issue in all aspects of hunting for that matter).

You are looking for an easy way out and your not going to get it here, we have all done the work to get our turkey spots and no one is just going to just hand that over to you. You might get some guidance on crown land spots to go but good luck having someone hand you a private spot they have done the leg work on. Put some gas in your vehicle find the birds and keep on knocking on doors.

ive read some of your posts on here.... you seem like a pretty miserable guy.... trust me my friend i've spent a lot of time outside and really just wondering how to access crown land information.... the internet and I don't see eye to eye at times lol thanks so much for your time and quality information though!

Duckslayer is right, no excuses for not knowing the ownership of the land. Long before the internet, guys did their homework in the township office, studied the maps and asked them "who owned what" then contacted that person. If you don't know, stay off the land.

relax pal, I know ive hunted only crown but very small portions of it... I used think in my first statement now that I look back... apparently it got a couple backs up... southern Ontario is definitely a different beast!!! lol don't take everything so literal and to heart... the technicians motto....

There is something I believe is called the Ontario Crown Land Atlas which is likely online (also technologically challenged). You may want to have alook at that. Failing that, get out and scout and knock on doors which most guys do well before the season starts. Hope this helps. B525

a guy at work just told me the exact same thing actually... appreciate the help... probably just me but knocking on farmers doors just seems intrusive for some reason but I guess that's the only way you're gonna get land when crown is at a minimum.... like I said its a different world down here and I just need to adapt!

Actually according the trespass act in a rural area if it's not posted or fenced your are free to hunt it. Onus is on the landowner to properly post it. You my not like it but that's the law.
