Please understand that drawing parallels between police shooting a bear and police shootings involving people is not acceptable on the forum. Thank you.

Aren't animals people too, I keep hearing that from some groups like PETA and Animal groups...
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/peta-goes-too-far/2/
In 2003, PETA's president, Ingrid Newkirk, faxed terrorist Yasser Arafat after Palestinian terrorists used explosive-strapped donkeys in a terrorist attack, asking Arafat to spare the donkeys. Not innocent Israeli civilians being targets, but the donkeys. "Leave the animals out of this conflict," she wrote. The Center for Consumer Freedom report notes: "When The Washington Post inquired why she didn't ask Arafat to persuade his people to stop blowing up Israeli citizens as well, she replied: 'It's not my business to inject myself into human wars.'"
..
Wesley Smith, author of Consumer's Guide to a Brave New World, among other books, makes the point: "When ALP (PETA - Animal Liberation Project) places a photograph of hanged blacks with that of a dead cow being hoisted by a rope for butchering, it is because animal liberationists actually believe that the lynching of African-Americans in the Jim Crow south and slaughtering cattle are equivalent evils."
They aren't correct .... or even rational in my opinion BUT you have to realize the buy meat from a grocery store where no animals were harmed are out there. Educate them if they want to listen, ignore them if they won't and make fun of them if they won't shut up! If you hear of the selling souvenir bear claw necklaces net me know .. :-) I would like to go bear hunting myself sometime but I know my wife won't want the meat and time is another issue.... maybe I will watch for them in my backyard.

Hopefully this is the first of many more bear sighting in Toronto. I hope they become as common as raccoons and create massive damage to people's property.
Then they will know what people in Sudbury and neighbouring areas have had to deal with since spring hunt was cancelled.

Grew up in the late fifties on 20 acres north of finch, east of 48. Even though it was a Crown Game Preserve, I had more game in our back yard than I do here in Bancroft. Jack rabbits, fox, coyotes, and deer, but no bear.

you cannot allow bears living in urban areas.. all must be killed. End of story.

Songdog,
You got to my comment before I did. You have spoken the truth. It is not an issue, and has not been an issue for folks living in northern Ontario. This is no different than the bear that was shot in Newmarket two years ago. It is my belief that only once the bear population started moving south to the GTA was it important to re-establish the spring hunt. Sadly the real reason that the hunt is needed is to reduce predation by bears on moose calves (especially at this time of year)
