    Default Conservative Leadership Race

As a card carrying member on the CPC, I will have the opportunity to vote for the leader. I made up a spreadsheet of the various candidates with a list of pros and cons for each, too many cons and they won't get a vote from me. I have had the chance to speak to 4 of the candidates including almost an hour one on one with one candidate. I have a couple of key issues that are important to me, one of which can put a candidate out of the running regardless of any of their other policies.
My key issues are one, a combination of firearms laws and the justice system, how to protect the legitimate firearms owners and punish the real criminals, but most important, the right to proper end of life care and the option to chose to end suffering when there is no possible hope.
For the candidate that I had the most time with, on the topic of the right to die, I believe that he gave me a true and honest answer, and that was that he didn't know. He didn't give me the answer he thought I wanted, he admitted he had no answer. The general Conservative policy is opposed to doctor assisted suicide, but I think that most that have had to watch a loved one suffer before an inevitable death would consider otherwise. I asked the same of others, one was firm in his conviction that there should be no doctor assisted suicide, when I asked why we will end the suffering of our pets, why can't we do the same for our loved ones, his reply was that they are only animals. I can't support anyone with that attitude.
I asked the question of one at an open meeting, typical politician, talked in circles, and never answered my question, so he is off my list.
With this number of candidates it is tough to make a decision, I have my personal opinions, but I also think about who gives the Conservative the best chance of winning the next federal election which means someone that can win Quebec.
So who do you think gives the CPC the best chance to save Canada from the justin?

It's a toss up between Erin O'Toole and Kellie Lietch. Both Max Bernier and Steven Blaney are Quebecers, but, not many people have a lot of confidence in either of them. Just for the record,I voted for Erin O'Toole. My bet is that there'll be three ballots before a front runner emerges. The deal making will be epic. This will be the best show in town and I can't wait.

Undecided after O'Leary pulled out. I believe the remaining Conservative candidates do not have what it takes to go head to head with the Liberal party spin doctoring. However Candice seems to have more balls than any of the men running.

Trost and Lemieux would be my first choices, after that Scheer and Leitch then O'toole and Blaney has the experience but many of the remainders like Obrai, Raitt and Chong are nothing more than Lib lite... they don't get a Conservative nod watch them cross to the other side for a candy and a smile from Trudope.

Trudope stands there and lies repeatedly, the CBC with it's 20% increase payoff covers up usually and the ethics commissioner goes on vacation .... makes me wonder about the future of even a great candidate.... and with the characters and money involved I wonder about small plane travel etc. being dangerous for them leading up to an election...

There's really little doubt that no matter who wins, they better be able to develop and implement a process to handle the press or they'll be drawn and quartered at every turn the same way the msm are doing to Trump. They've been acting like idiotic chicken littles-all bluster and bullshyte with no substance, trying to drive public opinion to the left.

Lemieux is dead set against any form of doctor assisted suicide no mater what the circumstances, rules him out for me, and I don't think much of Trost's platform either. Chong wants a carbon tax, my thoughts are that will drive business South as the US drops taxes while we raise them. I had and hour with Saxton, I likes what he said, on questions he couldn't answer, he told me straight up instead of telling me what he thought I wanted to hear.
I believe that the leader has to have strong support in Quebec, still at a loss who to vote for. I do like Blamey, goos base in Quebec and was part of the common sense gun laws brought in by the Conservatives.

it seems like there hasn't been much media coverage of the race.

An awful lot of candidates, I expected some of the lower-rated ones to drop out a while back

I sure as he** didn't see this one coming. It never occurred to me that Andrew Sheer would beat both Erin O'Toole and Max Bernier, albeit by a very slim margin of 1%. I hope it doesn't split the party and that Conservatives can bridge the gap and and appear as one unbeatable entity. That job will be up to Andrew. I wish him all the best and pledge my support.
