No he's asking the Liberals to fess up and admit that Canada is still involved in combat missions. ..and rightfully so.
The Liberals won voter support by promising that Canada would only be in a "advise and assist" role in Iraq, so they won't admit publicly that Canada soldiers are still involved in combat rolls. Pretty hard to sell that killing enemy combatants 2.2 mile away is done in self defense..LOL..

"In a letter Friday to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mulcair says the incident "seriously calls into question your government's claim that Canadian forces are not involved in direct combat in Iraq."
"Will you now confirm that Canadian troops have engaged in ground combat since your government took office?" he wrote.

"Why have you not declared that the current military operation is now a combat mission? Why has there been no debate in the House of Commons regarding this change of mission?"

Advise and assist is code for tangential military operations(along with the main advising role). Always has been at least in the US to qualify as non combatant definition under US Title 22.

I would imagine it is the same in Canada and that Mulcair is well aware of it. Just another calculated and measured display of false indignation by Mulcair or he really is as dense as I think.

Surely self defense covers ones self and those under your care?

As mentioned above one of the interesting things about Canadian sniper teams is that they are both snipers and capable of switching roles back and forth. Such was the case with the two snipers from the PPCLI who actually obtained their kills just days apart and now hold the number three and four slots for distance records.

Predator Drone video or it didn't happen lol.

Rumours are the ammo was Sniper Elite API 756gr 2827 fps @ 24m

That round was 2800ish FPS thru a Tac 50 with a can installed and was confirmed yesterday.

That should provide more ballistic info for those whom may be interested in the flight.

Edit... forgot to mention the maker... General Dynamics.........

Somewhere , we are getting confusing figures, in the original report on the incident, it was reported that it took 10 seconds for the bullet to arrive at the target.
The distance as reported was 3,540 meters which is is equal to 3,871 yards, which is 11, 613 feet in distance, divide this by 2,827 fps equals 4.1078 sec.
I wish that some of those giving and reporting such facts would get their stories straight.

A good NP opinion piece on the topic...and what Angry Tom was striving at

Or so the public was told at the time. If the government has amended its policy, it hasn’t said so. Which is what makes this week’s reports of incredible marksmanship by a Canadian commando so interesting. A 3.5 kilometre sniper shot is many things: a tremendous feat of arms, first and foremost. And if it saved the lives of allied troops and innocent civilians, it’s also a blessing. But there are two things it most certainly is not: training assistance or urgent defensive fire.

If Canadian troops are now actively engaging ISIL forces, helping speed the collapse of its odious caliphate, we would be delighted. We opposed the Liberals’ decision to end our combat mission and would welcome a reversal of it. Some media reports claim military sources have told them that Canadian sniper teams are actively involved against ISIL beyond this single sniper incident. If so, good
