Black bear captured and relocated in Kemptville

A small black bear has been captured by Conservation Officers in downtown Kemptville.

Conservation officers were called in after the young bear was spotted at the side of the road near Oxford and Bridge streets this afternoon.





The officers were able to capture the bear and will be taking it to Lanark to be released on Crown land.

Looks to me like a little food & a live trap . Probably a bag of citiots garbage & a live trap . There used to that . Luck

Probably came down from the Fergusen Tree Forest along the Kemptville Creek. Some deep woods back in there for bears. Not the first bear in these parts, but still not to common.

Good the MNR CO's, who's office is about 3 miles away, were able to get out from behind the desks and head over. Lots of excitement for them too...

Warning! Hubby drove up on a Big Black Bear, running across McCordick at 44/Merlyn Wilson Dr. Walked out of the subdivision right there from between houses. This happened 15 minutes ago, around 3:20 on Monday June 5. Keep an eye out Kemptville and North Gower folks. We've called Kemptville OPP and Animal Control. Our property just west of Merrickville has seen an increase in bear... 20yrs ago we always had one to two kicking around foraging in summer. There's an average now of 8-10 a summer individual animals that come and go until hibernation time. Two different sows that always have Cubs in tow on camera... 20 min drive to Kemptville.

I have seen quite a few as well in one particular area of Limerick Forest where I use to grouse hunt. I came across them in the Winchester Bog area as well and a farm I use to hunt in near Spencerville. Merrickville has always been a hot spot as well.
