Harber Craft also made a wide 12 footer, rated for 15 horse, I own one, they were made in Fort Erie On, they also had a plant out in B.C., I do believe as you see Harber Craft boats out west.

I often wondered - when they rate a boat for the max hp is the rating based on the hp of the motor only or is the weight of the motor also taken into consideration - the reason I wonder is that the new 4 stroke engines are much heavier then the old 2 stroke and putting a newer motor on an old boat may over stress the transom

Back when Dad and I were building plywood/Fiberglas boats we had to send a whole list of measurements in to get the plates. Weight of the motor didn't matter but transom height did.

A lot of old boats don't have Transport Canada capacity plates. You need to go to Service Canada in person, you can't do it online. You need to have measurements for the boat length, width, transom height and dry weight. Process is a bit longer but if you have the info you should have no problem.

I just purchased an old Harbercraft 12S (12ft) came with a 76 Johnson 15hp this past Saturday...
The hull Plate indicates max HP = 15
