I don't think anyone can possibly reason with Jong Un and any country, including a naïve Canada that thinks economic sanctions will work will find out just how wrong they are. Jong un is not unlike a Stalin. Crazy enough to kill off his own family because they believe they are a threat to their leadership.
I firmly believe a shooting war is inevitable regardless of the rhetoric from both sides. Trumps best ploy is to just shut his mouth until Jung makes the first aggressive move . Only then will the States get world wide support in any retaliation they decide on.

Of course China will defend N. Korea if the US attacks first. Wouldn't the US defend it's allies if they were the result of an attack? Didn't America's allies come to her defense in 2001? You are only telling half the story. China did say that it will defend N. Korea if it is attacked by the US but China also said if N. Korea decides to attack the US, N. Korea is on it's own against any reprisals which will come.

Thank God you aren't in any position to start an armed conflict. There are more options than simply this one. Financial sanctions, diplomacy, or having China deal with their junkyard dog are three ways to deal with this problem. And as far as crazy guy with the hair cut, I wouldn't necessary point fingers because your crazy guy shouldn't be in charge of a Twitter account let alone in charge of the launch codes.

China is looking out for their best interests. One of those interests is having a buffer between it and a US aligned/controlled country/area. However, it also realizes that if Crazy Leader decides to push too far, the world wouldn't look too kindly on China protecting Crazy Leader. Let's see how far your resolve goes when people start getting laid off because the parts or goods they rely on to do their job (either in manufacturing or retail) aren't coming in from China. Let's see how far you are willing to go to pay for more expensive items because you no longer have a cheap labour alternative for manufactured goods. For a country which is dependent on Walmart, I am going to forecast not too far.

Kim launches missiles. US and it's Allies launch counter measures with hopefully great success. US and Allied forces begin to destroy N. Korea's Surface/Sub-surface fleet, and any Aircraft dumb enough to cross the shore line. China Anexes N. Korea. US and it's Allies DON'T object.

The only problem with that is China won't just "annex" N.Korea. They won't stop until they hit the southern tip of S.Korea,too. Chinese philosophy won't allow for half measures. They backed the north Koreans in 1953 and that's why there's only been a cease-fire. Technically,the war still goes on in their minds. All it will take is Kim Jung Un to pull a pisser.

China has no wish to destroy the economy of S. Korea or engage in a hot war with the US or any of the other 40 to 50 counties that are part of the still standing UN resolution to prevent the N. Korea from invading the south. N. Korea would still exist on the map, but there would be major changes. It would be more like a protectorate of China, same as Guam is to the US.
