Remember though that just because it does not follow the firearms act it does not necessarily remove all connection to it being a firearm.

The case has been made that a paintball gun and a pellet gun can be considered firearms under the firearms act if deemed necessary. They did this a couple years back due to the number of teenagers who were going around with paintball guns shooting people and the use of pellet pistols for crime. They allowed them to be considered firearms in this case, so they can be charged with improper storage, transportation, etc.

I have a friend who competes in paintball contests, he thought that it was insane that he had to encase his marker now, they do not even call it a gun. Another friend shoot airsoft, similar stuff there.

The gun in question is a firearm as defined by the Criminal Code. However, the Regs under the Firearms Act
    Regulate classes of firearms.
Antiques can be stored or displayed without locks or rendering them inoperable.
It's been a long time....I screwed up and forgot that regulation!!
The firearms regulations in Canada are confusing at best.

The topic at hand is storage. Pitch forks fall into the dont point it rule. How do farmers store them?

It became a lot more muddy a couple years back, technically your airguns and paintball guns need to be stored in a case, not sure if locks are required but they muddied things more.

Does this mean I have to store my pneumatic nail gun in a case?
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....
