Baiting Suggestions?

The rule of thumb I always followed was my own tasting. I've always had free access to bushels and bushels of free apples. Many immigrants had fruit trees in their back yards. When the spray restrictions came about those immigrants couldn't get the pesticides without a licence. Most just let the trees go. When husbands died the widows ... again .. just let them go. Niagara has plenty of "wild" apples growing in the woods. If I find an apple tree you could always tell if it was a deer magnet real easy. If there were apples in the tree but none on the ground that told the story. I've had lots of guys tell me they found an apple tree and the ground under it was loaded. So they set up and were disappointed. Obviously not the deer magnet they thought it was. Not all apples are created equal!
getting back to corn .... when I use corn I only use a small amount on the nights I go in to hunt. The deer will clean it up by sunrise before the turkeys.

Yes I've found turkeys hard on corn. I've also found baiting will make the deer nearly go nocturnal until well after the last gun hunt. I did have a large buck sample a Corn LIx block the other night which is a first since bucks IMO usually avoid bait entirely unless its very cold out. I think I'll stay with the apples. Nobody has tried the gooey syrups I guess?

As originally posted what I am using are crab apples--those things that pucker your butt if you bite into them. But I pick them as soon as they start to fall in September. They sit in sealed pails til the November hunt and are well into the fermenting process. Deer seem to devour the things even under the snow.

Dano I make my own syrup I poured a litre bottle out on a short hallowed out log and set up a cam it brought in two gorgeous Skunks. Lol
Salt seems to be best here I have lots of watering spots that helps
