If I was at that performance in Las Vegas and had my scoped .243 with me I would have picked off that guy in the window after he let a couple rounds fly down on the crowd - doesn't hurt to have a handgun in your waist band and a scoped sniper rifle draped over your shoulder when you go someplace - just in case - oh and always make sure you have enough ammo
You guys should probably only hold school on military bases with 5 mile buffers and checkpoints manned by Navy Seals and snipers on every roof top. Should also issue type IV body armour to all staff and students.
Seriously though you already have more guns in the hands of "good guys" than anywhere on the planet and yet per capita you have more homicides and shootings like this than anywhere in the developed world. Something is clearly wrong with your model and more guns is not the answer.

Does not have to be the answer, just a right. Americans talk about the third world and their problems , yet they are the most violent society on earth.

I can just see my 8th grade teacher armed with a hand gun.
The lady was about 70 years old with a limp and had bit of the shakes when she's wrote on the chaulk board.
Ya, thats who I want armed and protecting me from a deranged shooter, I'm sure she would be a real Annie Oakley

I would have thought social media and bullying and copy catting was a root cause of all these shootings. But looking at the mug shots of the perpetrators now makes me wonder just how off base I was.

In fairness they are not asking teachers with no experience or mandating that all teachers carry guns..... I am sure there are some teachers (good law abiding teachers)in the US that are licensed firearm owners that are more than willing to go the extra mile in keeping the kids safe.
Many teachers including the one that got killed in Florida give up their lives to protect our children. Maybe allowing them to protect themselves and our kids with firearms (against the bad guys) isn't such a bad idea. This will at least give them a fighting chance. I know I would want my son's teacher to take a bullet for him.
We wouldn't think so highly of any teacher that didn't put their life before a students would we? I know I wouldn't. Allowing some to carry might not be that bad of an idea.?
I am just trying to get into the US mindset. Hard to do as a born Canadian though.

Not exactly true. More accurately they are the most violent society in the developed world. There are many many other countries that have higher rates of violent crime, kidnapping, rape, homicide etc..

Won't really matter how many "good guys" are on the scene if they are cowards like this one:

An armed deputy was on duty at that Florida high school but wouldn't go into the building to confront the shooter. Lotta good that did. I get it if you are an untrained civilian but for an on-duty LEO it is pathetic.
