I found the exact opposite last summer GW...I was selling a 2011 4x4 Silverado for $14K on Kijiji for a neighbour....All, and I mean ALL, the calls came in from southern Ont...as far as London. Not one inquiry from anyone this side of Kingston (sold it to that guy) for $13.5K.

GW..I had to put a new tranny in my 97 GMC 1500 4x4 last summer..took my total investment into the truck up to $5.5K..I've had it for 6 yrs now, so still less than my $1K a yr budget for a p/u...LOL...

However, the current model (2018's K2's) will still be produced in 2019, and ongoing in parallel with the 2019's (T2's).

I've been trying to replace my 1998 sierra (425k) for over a year now. I had been looking for a 2-4 year old with under 80k on it and was continually shocked by how much people are asking for them. I almost bought a 2017 w/ 37k on it for 33,500 - but with truck month starting, I could buy the exact same truck 2018/0km for less 2k more. Buying used doesn't make a lot of sense given the prices on the used ones.

For that price you get v8/4x4/locking diff/double cab/trailer package/20" chromed alloy rims.

Here's GM's truck finder. The prices there are cash prices - add about 2800 if you take the financing. Those prices include everything but taxes.

GM would NEVER remodel an entire plant and spend over $500M to not build new trucks. The start up is building the rest of the 2018 models with a rolling changeover scheduled for early June. The days of the big shutdowns to do a changeover have been gone for decades. Changeovers, now, can be completed in under 72 hrs.

Agree with you on that. Ottawa is a horrible place to buy a truck - new or used. I only got the deal I did because I showed him the online add from a coburg dealership and asked him to match it. The one I mentioned 2017 w/37k was in Oshawa. Did a couple of trips to southern Ontario to look at trucks.

As far as the 500m investment, small potatoes compared to the 3b in Fort Wayne and 1b in Mexico, where the new models will be built, and as far as the 72 hour change-over - GM would disagree with that.

Did you read the article? Headline is "GM plant in Oshawa won't produce redesigned 2019 GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado".

Lead paragraphs sure make it look like the 2019 won't be assembled in Oshawa - unless I've completely lost my grasp of the English language.

    UPDATED: 12/20/17 2:22 pm ET - corrected

Editor's note: GM is upgrading the consolidated line at its Oshawa assembly plant. An earlier version of this story referred to the incorrect line being upgraded.

General Motors Canada will indeed assemble the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado at its Oshawa plant, but they won’t be the redesigned 2019 models.

Instead, the plant will finish assembling and paint outgoing 2018 models shipped to Oshawa from Fort Wayne, Ind., for the foreseeable future.

Also, from the GM insider news:

    http://www.gminsidenews.com/articles...019-goes-sale/

"GM Oshawa Will Build the Legacy Silverado, Not the 2019 Truck"

..and if you don't know what a "Legacy Silverado" is, it's the current model, which will be produced concurrently with the new model for the 2019 model year. - So post 2018, you will still be able to buy a 2018, it will just be labelled a "2019 Legacy Silverado" - but it's not the 2019 model.

The reason I want something very new like the F150 is if I treat the frame correctly and with the body being aluminum it should technically last me for ever and no more ripping apart old trucks, I guess that doesn't solve computer problems thought.

It seems they're telling the media one thing and their employees another. Why am I not surprised.

He bought a plain Jane which seem to really baffle the dealership no add on's all he got was single Cab, 4wd with locker and the body shield. No Power windows and no power doors, no nothing else and the floor is just plain no carpets. Took 9 weeks the dealer said nobody ever order something so plain before.

Ford switched to Aluminum in 2015 so I will be looking for a 2016 + as soon as I land a new contract.
Ford did a rust treatment on his truck? I have a 2016 F150 and they advised me not to do it. They tell me the frame and other metal parts have been E-Coated to prevent premature rust. Upon researching this on some Ford F150 forums, there's some unhappy truck owners because of early rust signs on the truck frames. 2015 up to 2018. I have 30k on mine with no rust. I think I'm going to do what your buddy did and have it sprayed.

I have a 2008 Tundra 4.7. Thirsty? Yes. Reliable? Yes. 10 years and 280,000km. Brakes and a muffler is all that it's needed. Oh and a windshield, but that wasn't her fault. I do all fluid changes at their recommended service point and have it crowned every second year. I don't haul much more than a 16' aluminum boat a few times a year but the sled and the atv are in the back most weekends of the fall/winter.

Had a 1998 Tacoma that I took to about 350k before it was frame recalled.

Not a truck, but the Corolla in the driveway has 299,999km and still going but not counting. Odometer stopped. I joked with the service guy that whoever did the purchasing for these models mustn't have thought much of Toyota.

No, I don't work for Toyota but they do make a great bunch of vehicles.

Karen has a 2004 4runner Limited. We are to the point of replacing parts( axles, coil springs, water/powersteering pump and things) not because they are broke but because they have been on the truck for 15 years. We are replacing the parts now so they don't break on the trail. We are also converting her truck's factory air ride suspension to an OME( That is Old Man Emu) 3 inch lift coil over suspension system.

Planning a three week overland trip in 2019, and want both the tacoma and 4runner for the trip.

I am a real believer in the "Built not bought" option. You can simple go to a 4X4 shop and buy something off their lot, but do you really understand how the systems work?

Being in sales I go through a vehicle every 4 years. Normal Kms at that point is always over 300k. The best trouble free vehicle was a Camry XLE v6 that built in Japan. The only thing it needed were tires brakes and timing belts on proper intervals. Toyota make quality products but that doesn't mean the rest are junk.
