Quite apart from Rick's point, you can't identify people from photos unless you have something to compare to. It's generally not going to help.

Some precedences have been thru the courts...the example in the article (previously linked), the courts reduce the ordinal sentence to 11 months and he killed the trespasser...

Soon, a physical confrontation ensued between the interloper, John Ward, and the homeowner, who extricated himself from the fight long enough to run off and grab his rifle. He returned, firing two shots into Mr. Ward, killing him on the spot.

Mr. Nally would be charged with murder and manslaughter. He’d beat the murder charge but would get six years for manslaughter. Eleven months later, however, he would win his freedom, after an appeal and a retrial – based on precisely the same facts set out in the original trial.
Thank God some judges understand the intent of the law and can adjust the charge/sentence to reflect common sense.

A lot of criminals are identified by the police by posting good pics to social media. Happens all the time. The issue is getting quality photos.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean? However, I do recall reading something about photo's not being permitted and used as evidence. Something to the effect of them not being proof enough due to chain of evidence? Or lack thereof?

But a lot are not. I can tell you the cameras on my property have never identified anyone, even with clear faces.

If you don't have a person who recognizes the photo or another, identified photo, you have no way of knowing who that person is.

Granted, but if that person is recognized, and later found, can the image be used as evidence against them?

Except that it's not a precedent because it happened in IRELAND, and here in Canada our courts apply Canadian law.

I'm amazed how quickly people jump to defend this guy when nobody knows the facts.
