Productive couple days

Start off with this morning. I slept in and didn't arrive to the farm I was planning to hunt until 730am. Soon as I shut the truck off and get out I hear coyotes yipping at the back in the swamp. Crows are going nuts out in the cattle pasture so I walked the long way along the bush to not be seen. I get back to first fence line and sat down. By this time everything was silent so I do some high pitched barks and howls on my hand call. A minute goes by and I see two coyotes standing at the bush line looking back into the bush (500 yards from me) then another pops out.....then another. Then two more come out about 50 away from the other 4. 6 coyotes standing in the field looking around. After about a minute goes by the lead coyote (biggest most amesome coyote I've seen in a long time) starts to trot my way and heading down wind. All 5 start to follow and are about 50 yards behind. They get to about 300 yards away but I'm worried they are going to wind me so im just getting ready to shoot and the lead one throws his head into the air, then spins around and starts running away. Couldn't believe he winded me so I start to bark at them and the big coyote won't stop but the other 5 are standing looking in my direction. I figure it's now or never. I pull the trigger on the biggest one I could see broadside, he goes down in a heap and doesn't move, Now the others start to scatter.

I start with the pup distress and still see the lead coyote high tailing it to the bush so I see another one stop at about 400-450. Held a bit high and squeezed off and seen snow fly in front of him. Too low.

Everything settles down so I wait about 5 minutes then get up and walk down closer to where the downed coyote is. Start doing death cry again on the hand call and another coyote steps out about same spot as the last one I missed. Aimed about a foot higher than before and squeezed to see him bang flop. Two out of 6 I'll take I guess. Sat for another 30 minutes but no more came out.

Never called in 6 coyotes before but it was pretty exciting.

I actually shot a coyote in the same field the day before at 10am. I knew the farmer was calving pretty good and he always has coyotes hanging around during that time so I went for a walk around the field and his husky came with me. I was standing at the edge of the swamp with the dog about 100 yards away in the field smelling tracks. I see a coyote come trotting out of the bush on a bee line towards the dog. Dog doesn't see it so I just sit down and wait. Coyote gets about 100 yards from the dog and is getting ready to pick up speed by its body language so I give a big WOOF, Both coyote and dog stop and look over at me and BOOM down goes the coyote. Look over at the dog and it's doing Mach 5 back to the barn. She wouldn't come closer than 100 yards when I was dragging the coyote out, but she could smell it and her hair was standing up. Even standing at the barn talking to the owner she would just circle my truck but not come close LOL

5th coyote I've shot on this farmers property this winter, He's so happy he offers to pay for my ammo lol but I said he doesn't owe me anything, I owe him for letting me hunt there.

Great job on the yotes!! No doubt the farmer will be happy with those results!! Keep at em.

Is that an aftermarket stock on the tikka??

Nice going, that is some good shooting.... Are you sitting on the ground or have a seat? How are those shooting sticks you are using. I am looking at finding something a little better (setup solution/position) for those longer shots....

Yes it's a Boyd's stock on the Tikka.

I love them bogpod Stix. Very well made I've had them for 4 years and use them for deer and coyotes. They make a tri-pod as well which is very nice. I might buy it as it's great for a rock solid rest if I don't have a back rest.


I'm pretty much solid with the bogpod Stix and a back rest (tree or fence post), just have to squeeze the trigger without moving the gun and that .22-250 hammers them
