    Default Ticks !

Looks like this year is going to be "banner" year for ticks in Ontario: https://globalnews.ca/news/4197168/t...e-canada-2018/

I personally hate these critters more than any others as they carry serious diseases that can be transmitted to humans and pets.

What are you guys doing to protect yourself from them (and the diseases they carry) when going in the woods ?

Spray down your clothes you wear to the bush with permrethrin spray. Let it dry. I started using it several years ago and have not had a tick on me while turkey hunting since.

Picking up a product from the U.S.A that is applied(spray tank) around the perimeter of my property keeping the ticks out. A friend of mine tried it out a couple of years because his entire family including his dogs were always covered in ticks. It worked like a charm and no longer had issues with ticks on his property.

We are lucky here in the Northwest.
Long cold winter with minimal snow caused a long deep freeze into the ground so many ticks died over winter.
I have had only a few this year where in other years picking 50+ a day is common.

I was out on my bike yesterday afternoon. I was on a main road in a subdivision and I pulled off a dog tick from behind my ear.

    They are everywhere apparently
The deer are here, when I'm not near

Sometimes I think some people are more prone/susceptible to attracting ticks. I use tick repellent(sawyers) and other products over the years and not once have had a tick on me(knock on wood). I have a buddy of mine that can literally walk through poison ivy in his bare feet and not get poison ivy. I just have to look at poison ivy and I get it.

Yup, picked one up behind my ear the other day while out cleaning up some brush on the edge of our fields. I think they will be bad this year.

I feel like they are crawling all over me now after reading this thread.

I don't do anything in particular other then wearing long sleeves cloths and long pants and high boots when in the bush and check myself and my cloths thoroughly afterwards. I found two on my cloths so far during this turkey season. None have been embedded.

I picked up tick repellant from High Falls Outfitters in Belleville last weekend. Havent tried it but they said it works great.

I find them the worst in the fall during the gun season when I am putting a ton of miles on my feet. Every time I sit down I am taking two or three off my cloths.
Things that fly turn me on
