Default Genetics of athleticism in dogs

Athletic performance has a genetic basis ... no news there. But this article on recent research into the genetics of athletic performance in dogs is interesting.

Very interesting, and it relates to a radio interview I heard yesterday on CBC about what makes outstanding human athletes perform at the high level that they do. They theorized that it was as much or more mental than physical, because there are many athletes who would possess the physical attributes of those like Lebron James, Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, and others who are super athletes; however only a select few have the mental ability to see the big picture regarding location of other players, speed of the target, how things are about to change, etc. , then make use of all of that while predicting how exactly to use their body to make the shot, pass or change direction. The mental quickness and accuracy is what makes those super athletes stand head and shoulders above the others. Same with dogs, I guess.
