Sorry about your luck Russ. Glad to see you are taking it like a man.

I don't believe in fines or discipline to send a message. If you want to send a message do just that, there are message boards all over the internet, there's radio, newspaper any number of ways to do it. Fine people for breaking the law or let them off with a warning if you feel a fine is not necessary. On the other issue of not collecting fines, how about sending a message and collect the outstanding fines. Just my opinion.

Shooting a non game bird, is not even in the same universe as leaving a inch of skin on a walleye fillet from the self the proclaimed walleye capital of the world imo. Sending a message, in a lot of cases is often done by bosses at work, or authorities such as police or C.O.s because they don't have the time the resources or are just to damn lazy or unmotivated to take care of the issue properly imo. I have no issue with them fining, Roper if they felt it was warranted, I would argue that a man and his young child are really not the people they need to teach a lesson to though imo. Also just because a method of enforcing any rule or law works, doesn't make it a good method.

People know the rules, some honestly forget, others ignore them completely, when you get caught , you pay the fine , just like speeding in a vehicle some always think that the rules don,t apply to them and speed on most roadways, then complain when they are caught.
Play by the rules as adults, teach your children the same and you're conscience if you have one won't bother you and you won't have to keep looking over your back .
To the original poster, I congratulate you for accepting the fact that what you did was wrong and payed the fine !

I totally agree jaycee, I was only arguing that fines shouldn't be handed out to send a message, they should be handed out consistently to anyone breaking the law, because they're breaking the law. Picking someone out of crowd to send a message is BS.

They weren't picked out of a crowd, the C.O.'S were just doing their job in checking them out, didn't comply with the rules, ticket was issued and they paid the fine admitting guilt.

Kudos on you for not blaming the mean old CO's

So what would you do to get the message out that its is important to follow all games laws not only the ones we pick and choose?
Granted in this case its one of the most benign infraction possible but its done the job of getting a conversation going that there are consequences.
The old adage give someone an inch and they take a mile.
Left to our own devices we all get a little sloppy and/or complacent with the rules and the longer it goes uncorrected the worst it gets. Just look how bad it got in Port Hope and the fall fishery. Every once in a while they throw on a blitz for a little snap back
Again in my opinion this ticket wasn't issued to OP to exclusively punish him. It was for the rest of us to give thought should I follow the rules or pay the consequences.
The OP could of kept quite and the rest of us would of learned nothing hence the thanks for the public service announcement.
