Salt pit on crown land for Moose YES or NO

I am choosing the area where the login road and trail ends , so I am calling this area " no man's land " thats the area I am hunting With no interference from other hunters, because they are not willing to go there ...that is where the game is in hunting season .

The down side of this is that some people will start to treat these sites like their own property, and get possesive of crown land.

Not if you place it where no hunters will go (300 yard from the end of the road or trail )
in the middle of the bush ....

Is it legal ?

Nice set up and great pics. You seem to be well establish. Why are you asking if it’s legal? In Quebec they don’t put salt on the ground for Moose. As you can see on pic it’s somehow akward for them to get down. They usually put it 2’ high on a cut tree with a pointy end or they put in a v shape salt holder. Lot of work. You seem successful at it. Hope your lucky with the tags.

I never hunted over the salt , I put it out just to attract more game to the private land , we hunted .
It was interesting how many game visited the salt lick , enjoyed collecting the pictures.

I too was curious if it was legal. Are there other chemicals that we can dump on Crown land 25-50lbs at a time?

Kinda like the tons of salt that gets spread on crown land (highways) every winter ??

Years ago I asked the question the MNR

MNR Answer:
Yes it is legal to put out salt licks (or other bait) for deer, moose and bear for the purpose of hunting.
The only restrictions for the use of bait in hunting come under the Migratory Birds Convention Act Regulations.
