For the "new"guys to hunting and to Toronto-while I have no "vested interest" in the store,Al Flaherty's Outdoor Store is on Dufferin Street, close to Allen road, south of 401."Almost downtown"
One of the older Outdoor stores, and it is worthwhile to know about it,IMHO any "new" hunter would benefit from visiting it.
We can say they are part of "Toronto old hunting heritage."......they have good stuff, and they are"local"business........
    Torontonians...anyone seconding my opinion?

    Cheers

I’ve never been to Al’s because To this point I’ve been mostly an archery guy. I make the trip out to Easthill in Orono, they’re knowledgeable and I like their vibe. Plus tons of archery gear. They also have a brand new super shiny range, although I haven’t checked that out yet.

    As for hunting opportunities:

-Simcoe County forests, but not all of them
-York County forests, but only three of them
    -Ganaraska forest
-Northumberland forest, only deer I heard
-further afield, there’s crown land up Peterborough way - 2+ hours outside the city

Unless you know someone with private land, you’re driving an hour to hunt. Can’t help at all with water fowl, although I’d love to get into that this year.

Guys: when someone from Nova Scotia says they are moving to Toronto, that means that mean he could be headed anywhere between Oshawa and Burlington, not necessarily in the City proper. He might end up closer to decent hunting territory than suggested.

Welcome to Ontario, most of it is beautiful. The rest is south of the 407.

By no means is this move by choice, but duty calls. I will definatly miss the 1 hour from bed to blind days, but the challenge is what makes it fun. We are looking a settling in the actual city center so i can be close to work. Appreciate all the help so far, i am working on the license issues now, and enjoy all the hints and tips ive gotten so far.

Again thank you and keep the coming.

    I'm not a GTA resident.

I have been to and purchased from Al s store. Lots of inventory. Gagnon in Oshawa is a great shop too!

Salmon fishing out of Toronto last year was ridiculously good from all reports I heard. Guys landing 20 30 fish a trip. Those were not charter reports. Sounds like this year is off to a better start.

For waterfowl I believe some of the provincial parks to the east have blinds you can reserve and hunt from. I think presquille still does. But I thought Darlington and the others had this also.

There are stupid amounts of waterfowl in around Toronto. I drive 401 and 407 from the east to get to Barrie often. Look into finding the firearm restrictions for the townships and knock on some doors. I've hunted the Milton area before for geese.

    Good luck

Welcome! Yup, Al Flaherty's is great, good prices/selection ... highly recommend for folks in GTA.
As for hunting spots, there are a few public places that aren't too far from the GTA that have decent waterfowl opportunities, but I live by the 400/401, so I'm on the highway in a few minutes. I grew up in the city core, so that added quite a bit more to the commute, (just to get to the highway) ... so really depends what area of the city you are in as some areas are worse than others in terms of traffic.

    Online shopping.
BP, Cabellas, Sail and Easthill and more will all deliver. Spend your time travelling to water or woods, and not fighting weekend traffic to spend your $.

hey Tyler - you could start out by doing some pheasant/chukar hunts at some of the game farms around the GTA. Pineridge Pudelpointers is one of them - very decent folks - you could get some details on pricing on their website. You would have to wait for September though - too hot for the dogs now. Send me a message and we can do a hunt together.
