    Default Grundy Lake PP?

    Hey folks,

I am camping here this weekend. Never been before. We will have some kids along with us. How's the main lake? What about the surrounding lakes? Any tips would be appreciated... Are there portaging opportunities to get into better lakes? I looked at the maps and it seems like there's a couple of lakes that could be more promising since they are interior lakes.

    Thanks!

We stayed there a few years ago. I rented a canoe and played around on Grundy Lake at the north end in the pencil reeds. Caught a bunch of nice Pike on spinner baits in the evening just before dark. I never explored anywhere else. Good luck, very nice park.

Grundy is a well kept small park, there are some very short portages between the lakes which are noted on the map in the link below, and one longer push through some reed beds to get to another lake. There are two islands you can camp on but they are first come first serve and are canoe-to only, the other spots are car camping. You can catch Walleye (not Pickerel) and Pike, you may see Moose, Deer, and Fireflies (remember those?). All lakes are no-motors, not even electric. I suggest you book a site before going as it is a popular park, I recommend a site adjacent to one of the lakes. you may get some bad weather as it is close to Georgian Bay so be prepared for anything and be thankful if you don't get a storm.

Had a great weekend up at Grundy... only caught one pike but we didn't fish much.. really nice park and great scenery.. a bonus - saw a timber wolf cross right in front of our car at 5:30 AM on Saturday morning as we were driving to one of the interior lakes..

How was the smoke from the fires? You were very close to the one just north of the Key River (Parry Sound 33).

Yup, there was LOTS of smoke over Grundy Lake in particular on Saturday eve especially... amazing. Can't recall forest fire while camping.. usually a northern Ontario problem... we had a total fire ban in place.. hot, dry weekend.. the jumping rocks on Gut were the highlight!

Friends of mine were evacuated from Grundy late last week. I'm not sure how close the fire actually got to the park.
