Why buy one if you don't actually need it? I don't like these associations because they expect me to kowtow to them. Some of these can be very pushy. Several farmers around here no longer allow trails through their land because of their attitudes. Trail Police tried to tell some landowners they could not use the trail passing through their land, as well they use to give landowners free passes but cancelled that. Pretty stupid to bit the hand that feeds you and then even turn around and slap them in the face.

I understand both ends of the story, some live far enough north in the so called free zone, further south a lot of the trails run through county forests, etc where permits are required or you get charged with trespassing. I can assure you that we have a number of trail wardens that have been trained with a no confrontation attitude, rather please and thank you and educate the non compliant riders. If the non compliants don't get the permits, it is passed on to the police to deal with. Anyone telling the landowner he can't ride on a trail through his private property has to be an idiot.

Actually if you do not ride on the trail you do not need a permit and can legally go any place on crown. As well if you have access to private land you don't need a pass.
