Dove shot comparison
https://www.chron.com/sports/outdoor...ut-5933858.php
In my neck of the woods i can't find any steel shot 7 or 8 and dont feel like going for a drive to a bigger city so for kicks asked Dr. Google about steel 6. Can save what i dont use for for my WC hunts so kind of works out i guess. i hate the drive into the city....
anywho, something worth checking out for kicks and giggles...

Interesting. Even size 6 is a bit of challenge to find in this part of the province.

I regularly carry steel #6 for grouse hunting if I'm planning to jump ponds for ducks in the same trip, not because it is any better, but to avoid having issues carrying lead.
I can't say for sure if it works the same, but it has put a few birds in the bag. That's all that matters to me.

Got boxes of Winchester #6 steel( small ducks), #7 steel target loads which I think are Kent.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

Interesting article, thanks for sharing. Would have never thought that steel shot would be as effective as lead on dove’s.

i honestly still have my doubts. the old school part of me says that lead beats all but hey-- cool thought anyways.
when i lived in sudbury i'd often just go partridge with my steel 4 shot in case i had a few mallards fly over. like dean it was the safest bet in case yogi decided to bust up the fun and could still hopefully stun the snowshoe enough to put a follow up round in him. :P

I would love to be able to find #6 steel for my 20G but all I can get around here is #7 target load, still does a decent job on doves

Can't say I blame you having less fate in the steel. It was some of the worse stuff ever made when it was first out. After almost 20 years, thing have changed. The cheapest steel shells today now make the most expensive ones from years ago look like the load of crap they really were.

I haven't been able to find much for 20g either. I found #5 blind side but haven't tried it.
