Simcoe county and the OFAH

Rookie you are misinformed if you think more membership to the OFAH equals a stronger voice except maybe to create more jobs in the OFAH.
Don't be fooled by free kids weekends and free pop and chips .That don't cut the mustard today.We have REAL issues confronting us today,we need a strong organization that can bring these isuues to the forefront and actually represent the interests of the provinces hunters and fisherman.Not tip toe thru the tulips.
Back in 1996 in this province we were an inch away from having handgun hunting reinstated.
It was the OFAH which squashed it.
Maybe because it was to be reinstated in some northern Ont WMU's only and we all know n Ont is not high on their priority list.
They got their feet up on the desk,they need a good shake up.
They recently voted in a new president which promised to do just that.
He lasted a month before their little boys club got rid of him on a technicality.He wasn't towing the line.

Apparently they have a nice set up for wedding receptions for a select few,now this is only rumor and comes from a fraternal brother so to speak.

I think just the Moose situation in Ontario speaks volumes about what has not been done and they do need a shake up. I for one will not come back to support them
because of there obvious political bias,you cannot afford to support any Provincial party in this Province because you will be left wandering the desert while they are not in power and the damage done is very long lasting. So I know full well the Liberals have not been active supporters of hunters but look what happened when they supported the other side Spring Bear cancellation...... We as hunters cannot afford to support any single political party,the OFAH must work with ALL parties or else we are done,in other words find ourselves in the position we are today.
I supported the OFAH for 20 odd years,but when I joined this forum and saw the political hatred displayed I immediately withdrew my support.

Speaking of Simcoe County, I am having trouble obtaining information on legal calibers within the forest. I understand each county may have different ones, but I just want to shoot a .22 and don't want to get into any unnecessary trouble. Does anyone know where this information can be found? I've been scouring www.county.simcoe.on.ca but have yet to find it the info. Thanks.

If it's not listed in any of the by-laws,then,it reverts to the FWCAct. Most regional municipalities re-wrote their by-laws many years ago when the new FWCA was enacted in 1997 to avoid duplication and/or conflict. A full list can be found in The Summary as to which municipalities require .275 caliber or less under Small Game section.

"Misinformation travels around the world before truth gets it's boots on" is a good analogy to apply to this statement. That's just flat-out wrong. The whole thing fell apart after the federal government amended The Firearms Act and Criminal Code as to the carrying of restricted firearms. Once the hammer came down from the feds,everything collapsed as far as handgun hunting was concerned. The province washed their hands of it after that. Every other point was moot.

I believe that a 22lr is fine in any of the forests that allow hunting, but only for hunting. Target practice and patterning are listed as activities that are not allowed.

Yeah it seems that way, I even emailed the township, I'll report back my findings. But from what I gather you are correct, no target shooting definitely, but I should be able to chase some small game. Thanks for the feedback!

It also means that in order to use the public forests you have to be ponying up to support wildlife. Which I agree with, so whatever the reason, more membership money means stronger representation for our interests and bigger wildlife initiatives.

Makes sense to me.

Ya exactly! If you don't personally regularly attend bylaw, municipal and regulatory meetings to represent hunters, knowing the OFHA does is a good feeling.
