Medical Marijuana grow ops!

I was watching /listening to the news last night , National News, the topic was all these Medical Marijuana producers, they said every plant grown uses 22 liters of water daily.
Wow! that is a lot of water that is being wasted.
What is this going to do to us in the long run, when all our good water is used up to grow this stuff .
Did our so called leaders in the "Lieberal Gov. " ever think about this fact or even looked into it before they legalized the growing of it?

It just gets me, all these years we have been told/advised how to conserve water. water saving toilets, water saving shower heads and others , now our boneheaded gov. thinks nothing of wasting our precious water on this crap, it just boggles my mind.

Compared to watering a monoculture lawn?
Compared to washing a car?
Compared to a backyard swimming pool?
Compared to irrigating corn to make ethanol or soy beans to make biodiesel?

First I would guess that 22 liters is an overestimate... it sounds 2-3x more than standard irrigation needs in most greenhouse crop operations.
Even if true, irrigating to grown a few doobies is not going to be a make or break point in our water abusive society.

In a greenhouse water is used for cooling in summer not like the plants drink that much water veggie guys always said it was actually cheaper to heat than to keep it cool
