Default What, when and how are you using scents?

Alright, we are heading into the start of interesting time in the deer woods. In the simplest way possible when is everyone using what? Buck urine, estrous, mock scrapes, any other scents? Also, calls, rattling? What works/working, has worked in the past?

Before it was illegal to use we would take tarsal glands from a killed doe and drag it behind us.

The idea of a scent right beside you is weird to me though, if the deer smell it then they would also be smelling you, a deer/human mix. Due to this I like to put any scent I use to attract out from in an area where I can shoot an animal moving towards it, 15 or so yards out for bow and where appropriate for shotgun or rifle.

I have not used scents though in a while, not since they banned the good stuff.

Ive been using these this year, I find they work if for no other purpose mask any of my scent...
I got my doe first timeout an hour after day break, that afternoon had 7 come in, and this one right under my stand, as I had the wick burning up in my stand that afternoon,

To put it real, see below, you can see the deer to the right, and the scent stick burning, worth noting, the deer came in down wind of me

The peanut thing I’ve done and have watched it get smashed by every squirrel around. Literally at the whole tub in one sit one night last year.

I use a piss drag on my walk into the stand then hang it on the bottom rung of the ladder (mostly so I do not forget to take it out with me)

I use a drag soaked in Fox Urine; I learned years ago that deer will cross a path I have walked over ONLY when I have had a drag behind me...

I use Deer Quest Scent sticks..have for many years and have shot deer for many years. This is from 2016 ML hunt in Dec. The red marker on the left is the 'Buck Down' ...on the right is the location of the scent bucket. They work.
