I am the fortunate brother in law that was able to harvest this buck. It was my second sit of the season, The weekend previous, I sat the same stand, quietly snuck into the stand at about 6:45, watched 3 bucks that morning, a spike, a small 6 point, and a nice sized 8 point all milling around, fighting and marking territory in the same area to my west. The 6 point walked around some brush across in front of me to about 13 yards to my east, directly down wind, but as he appeared in a shot lane, he immediately winded me and took off back west. Meanwhile the other 2 were fighting about 50 yards away over my left shoulder. The 8 point bedded down 46 yards away while the small spike continued to mill around. The wind was perfect but I didnt feel comfortable with the shot on the 8 pointer. After about a hour, the 2 bucks headed west into the wind in the opposite direction. Feeling pretty confident about the area, I slowly walked out, excited to come back that evening. Upon my return, the local farmers were working the field so I was unable to sit the same stand, and didnt see any action.
I was unable to get back out for a full week, but the following Saturday, I snuck into the same stand, quietly arriving and being set up at about 6:50am. The wind was perfect, the area I had seen the deer the previous week was directly up wind. As the sun begin to light the day, I could vaguely see, what I thought could be a set of antlers bedded down in roughly the same spot I had seen the 8 point take a rest. As I tried to focus on whether or not this was a deer, and the day slowly got brighter, I saw what was unmistakingly a large bodied deer, with a huge rack come slowly cruising in from the corn field to the exact spot the other deer had been the previous week. The buck slowly and casually made his way north, I looked for my chance to stand up and get into position to range the deer and hopefully attempt a shot.
The buck began marking the territory, as I waited for him to get a little closer. He then stopped to refresh a scrape. I ranged him at 36yds, and decided this was my chance. I steadied myself, drew my bow, lowered my 30 yd pin on to him, but realized I was a little too shaky to make the shot. I let off, took a breath, steadied myself, drew a second time and took the shot.
The deer jumped, and took off like a shot to the northwest. Feeling pretty good about the shot, I listened to him crash through the bush and heard a distinct crash 13 minutes after I let the arrow go. I waited about an hour and climbed down to check the area. There was no sign of blood within about a 10 yard radius around the shot site, feeling a little deflated, i wasnt sure I had hit him, but there was no sign of my arrow. We then decided to back out and give him some time, and go for breakfast. On the drive out, I noticed a small bit of blood on my hunting pants.
We came back 2 hours later, and within about 10 minutes found a prominent blood trail. We followed it for about 50 yds, found my arrow, continued for another 60-65 yards, toward a small tributary, as we crested the hill, we spotted him down in a valley.
4 years of bow hunting, passing on smaller deer, waiting for the perfect opportunity. On this day I was very fortunate to have this big old deer walk out and present me with a shot i felt very comfortable with. It ended up being a double lung shot, on the biggest deer I have ever seen, not bad for my first!
I am getting this deer shoulder mounted, my taxidermist has sent the jaw bone away to get dated, as he believes this deer was at least 10 years old.
I used no scents, no calls, just the some knowledge of the area, and i was seated directly downwind.
Hope you guys enjoyed the story, and best of luck to those still searching for this year's harvest!

Great story and big fat congratulations! Also welcome to the forums.
I don't want to brag, but let me quietly whisper this to you: I bow-hunted deer religiously from 1984 to 2002 without success. Loved every minute of every outing. Finally got a buck in 2003 - with a rifle! Trust me, you will savour the memory of your 2018 harvest for the rest of your life.

I hunt 91b curious what part of 91b this deer was taken in. Seems very few deer around anymore especially deer of that size. On a side note was unsuccessful in the controlled hunt this year. Wondering can I use my tag for bow hunting for an anterled deer?
