Back in 80
Past two years I spent up in sudbury. Deer are there but pretty much ghosts.
Excited to take some of the controlled hunt to sit in the bush. area 80 feels more like the promised land for deer activity. So far I've bumped a nice buck while turkey hunting and i've seen quite a few on my drives between towns and cities.
any one else hunting this area for the controlled hunt?

I'm not in the controlled hunt but have been hunting in 80 the past few weeks and have seen does every time I've been out. No bucks yet, but hoping that will change this week.

A buddy of mine lives in 80 but across the road from him is 87A and he has permission to hunt there. There is no shotgun season in WMU 87A because bow is open from Oct.1 till Dec. 31 which is great because the deer activity in around Cambridge is ramping up! In the last week I have seen deer pretty much daily many of them hours before dark. I saw a medium size buck at least an hour before dark in the field we are gonna hunt this weekend. Fingers crossed for him. This is his first year of hunting.

I'm in the Dec hunt in 80. Usually shotgun hunt but decided to try something different and less crowded. Leave a few for the late season guys.

You are going to miss the smokepole season in your home area if you do that!

Welcome to the promised land. I hunt 78, 80, 81, and 82 for deer and you are correct. It is the promised land. As long as you are patient and put in the time (often requires more than hunting just the controlled) you will fill a tag. I have filled my tag every year for the last 35+ years and since they started with additionals (varied between 78, 80, and 82a - never 81 for some reason) 15 or 20 years ago I have taken at least 2 every season and as many or 4 or 5 some years. Now get out there and find some of that promised milk and honey.

Yeah I've hunted 82a pretty hard for 4 years now in all three seasons, bow/rifle and ml. I'm on crown land and its pretty tough to find diurnal deer. In 80 I have a friend that has given me exclusive to 25 acres attached to about another 100 acres so the deer are less pressured.
Last week I decide to bushwack for something different through part of that legendary swamp. I was totally confident and enjoying the trudge all the while using my very basic GPS unit ..... then it dawned on me .... I didn't have a compass and no extra batteries for the GPS. Fortunately you can hear roads and even more fortunately the GPS didn't die. It'd be hard to get really lost but you could be in for a very long hard walk trying to find your way out.
