    Default Bountiful afternoon

Headed up to the camp in 82a on Sunday afternoon. Monday morning at 7am my nephew took a nice 8 pt right off the get go - kid did the exact same thing last year. We do however always give him the best spot on the property as he just started hunting last year and the rest of us are less concerned about filling tags. Anyways I saw nothing on Monday but got nicely busted by a group of 5 does on Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon we all went out but nobody saw anything with that nasty SW wind that was blowing.

This morning I slept in after one to many wobbly pops last night but was up around 9 am and kept myself busy for the morning doing chores, splitting wood etc.. I headed out at 130 pm with the rifle cased and unloaded strapped to my pack with an extra case for the 20 gauge. The plan was to take a slow meandering route to my watch about a mile distant and see if I could find some grouse before settling in for the afternoon deer hunt. Well I managed to lift 6 grouse on the walk and connected with 2 of them. Promising start to the afternoon. I arrived at my watch and unloaded and cased the 20 gauge and settled in for the afternoon. At exactly 4 pm a nice button buck emerged from right under my elevated blind without a care in the world. I put a 165 grain accubond into him at 15 yards and watched the textbook donkey kick followed by a 40 yard run ending with him collapsing against a pine tree.

The deer at the end of his 40 yard run:

    Well done

Just goes to show a few shots fired of during the day will not bother the deer.

I'm idle right now - blew out my right knee 4 weeks ago (roofing).

went on 4 wheeler last night to LOOK at my treestands. GRRRR!

Managed to get into my hut. evicted some mice. hopeful to get out soon.
