Trespassers

Again this year, my hunt in Amaranth was ruined by trespassers. I have lived in the area for over 18 years and it seems like every year we have to deal with this issue. We have permission to hunt on several farms in the area that my neighbors and friends own and these farms have all been posted with no trespassing and no hunting with out permission signage. It doesn't seem to matter to these guys as they seem to do what they want. 2 years ago we caught 4 guys pushing my immediate neighbors property with no regards towards the posted signs and in my opinion safety. We notified the MNR about the problem and even sent them pictures of their vehicles and license plates. Apparently they did nothing as the same guys were caught again last Wednesday pushing the same piece of property by my wife and I. The person in question argued with us that they had permission and he didn't seem to care if we called the OPP.
Our neighbor did call the OPP and supplied them with license plates and we also contacted the MNR last Wednesday as well. Neither of us have heard back from either authority ( very frustrating as they indicate that they want you to report ).
My wife hunts with me and it is at the point where she feels unsafe going out and sitting in a blind because of the fear of being shot.
I am sure that if I reacted the way I wanted too, the OPP and MNR would have shown up.

My group hunts private property in Grand Valley. Just down the road from you. We had a similar experience 2 years ago. We found a guy in one of our tree stands wearing full blown camo during the controlled hunt! We told him to get his out of here and never come back or we will call MNR/OPP. Haven't seen him since, thankfully

This subject comes up here several dozen times a year. There have been some lengthy and sometimes heated conversations about it.
I think the person (s) who make the report should be able to contact the authority who took the report and do a follow up?
Everyone should carry a valve stem remover on their Keychain. They come in real handy sometimes? ��

We have had trouble with trespassers at a variety of spots over the years and the MNR has been FANTASTIC. I know that they laid charges where they could on every occasion. I encourage you to follow up as this is obviously a very busy time of year for them. You may have to provide them with the landowner's info so they can confirm the trespassers did not have permission etc. I cannot speak for where you are, but the MNR office my way is running on thin staffing and budgeting. Despite this, the folks I have dealt with have been very devoted and diligent. So I hope your CO is the same way.

You should be the one calling the MNRF and the OPP , as it was you and your wife that were involved , you are the one that has all the pertinent info regarding this incident.
If you do not get a response from either within a reasonable time , keep calling till they respond to you, it is their job to respond and act upon these complaints.

Vise Grips are just as good and faster at pulling out the whole valve rubber stem ! and you can get by with the smaller ones that fit in a pocket.

It's not unheard of that all four tires develop "leaks".

And then the local C.O. comes by and charges all 7 occupants of the van for trespassing, not paying the daily fee at Luther Marsh Not having the proper license, and they also have to pay for a service truck to come out and replace valve stems and refill the tires !

It's a long story but it did happen. hmm you may wonder how I know.

Just call the police and say I hear gun shots in my property, if your not here in 15 minutes I'll investigate myself and they might not leave alive.

MNR is useless, I have reported after hours shooting for the last 2 years, not once have they investigated. I know who and where it comes from, they are shooting deer from their porch with lights, but I guess that's not a big deal

Some good advice and some bad advice in my opinion. When you make a report, always get the officers name and contact info. Ask to be notified of the outcome. You can’t be captain anonymous and expect feedback. Not saying that was the case, but it happens. I would also ensure the person you have permission from hasn’t quietly agreed to let “ol cousin so and so” go ahead and hunt there too.
I have been similarly frustrated but at the end of the day, it wasn’t MY property...
