What is your strategy now?

Hunted WMU 60 for 2 days. Too much snow and very cold, but I sat in a treestand ALL Saturday plus Sunday morning. No deer seen, but guys next door had three hanging. My friend had a good sized buck come out Sunday morning, but he had no shot...
We will continue to bait and hunt that area. No changes. We will also bait closer to home for the December controlled hunt.
Snow on the ground reveals their travel patterns, so if I change anything, I will set up an ambush point along those trails.

As an aside, hockeymjt, do you hunt close to home? We had a cottage south of Tobermory for many years (Cape Chin North area) but we never saw any deer up there. Just bears and rattlesnakes!

Hawkman, I hunt a number of places, Mount Forest have some properties, Caledon a few. If I still have my License in December I will hunt the Tobermory area, closer to miller lake and Ferndale. I know a few people that are very successful in the chin area, There are some very large bucs if you go deep, One are I love to hunt is just outside the Johnsons harbour, have seen some serious bucs there, yet to take one mind you, but they do not show themselves until mid to late December, when they start to head to yards, and yes lots of bears too,

Over the next couple weeks the peak of the rut will be winding down and I think it'll be a good time to hunt over water, and food sources. Sitting over scrape lines or rubs, will become less and less effective as the day's go by. Setting up between bed and food, you may still catch a buck checking doe bedding areas, I wouldn't leave the rattle at home just yet.

In 77b scrapes and rubs are still active, but really haven't seen the amount of does or bucks cruising as in years passed. Wondering if things are a bit late or if they were early and we missed the bulk of the seeking and chasing.

Wait to december once corn is cut and bait. They always come to bait late season.

Don't think I'll change nothing, by the looks of the snow I'd dress warmer. Gang brought 6 bucks in during rifle hunt and none of them had a doe with them except for the one I saw on Thursday. Ended up taking the doe as it was worth half the money pot back at camp. But she didn't look to interested in him either. Lots of corn and beans still on in my area.

Thanks for that info. Our niece is building a cottage just south of Tobermory, so I might have a place to stay next year .
Johnson's Harbour is where everyone used to hunt from what I heard in the area, but I was lucky to find a single shed antler there, and bagged a bird or two over the years... Lost our dog there for three days in 2000 during a cold Thanksgiving hunt. I never hunted deer in that area, but signs or tracks were next to none.
Places like Caledon or Collingwood sound more promising to me anyway!

I'm still baiting and taking pictures for another hunter who hunts my property. deer have stopped coming by and i saw alot of tracks in the snow elsewhere. deer are changing things up. might be worth moving to where we are seeing the travel routes.
