Default Video: An Evening Scrape Visit by the 14-Point Brute (Ottawa - Nov. 11)

    Hello All,

November 11th marked the fourth visit to the community scrape by the big 14-point brute buck. I'm still in awe each time he shows up.

(watch in 1080p HD for best quality)

    Cheers,

    Justin

Very few does...in the past month that the cam has been in this spot, I think maybe a doe stopped by once or twice. I'm quite surprised. Quite a few does in the area, but not interested in checking it out for whatever reason. I think I have had 7 different bucks work it though.

That is a stud of a deer for sure. Have you hunted him? Has your controlled hunt passed? Hope to see a pic of you holding that rack in the near future. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Hey Kenny - This is public land but off-limits to hunting. But I do hope to find those sheds once they drop

I'm curious about how challenging it would be to get a live photo of this animal, as in, just like hunting but with a camera and not a firearm. Since this deer is not hunted by humans, I wonder if it is as cagey as its less fortunate brothers.

rf2 - Funny you should ask, as this is what I do for a living - I'm an outdoor writer/wildlife photographer. Former Field Editor for Ontario Out of Doors (now Contributing Writer.) I spend 100's of hours each fall photographing these whitetail. The reason I have trail cams up is so I can monitor which bucks are in the area. I actually have about 10 different spots I hike and photograph at.
This guy is on the hit list to capture with the camera over the next month. So far, I have come up empty handed. Saying that, I was out this weekend and bumped into one of the 8-point bucks. He actually came within 12 feet of me, grunting, while he followed a doe. Here is a pic I snapped when he was less than 15 feet away, locked on a bedded doe.

Weird that the does don't check out the scrapes...... If the bucks pee to attract the does, why wouldn't the does check out the scrapes.... You got many cameras setup, do the does go to the scrapes as often as the bucks or is there something amiss here?
    Just some food for thought....

I'm a bit puzzled myself. As I say, the bucks hit this scrape regularly, but the does have only visited a couple of times in the last month that the cam has been up. Unsure why.
Only have one cam on a scrape this season (this one) but does did check out the scrapes quite regularly in previous years and at different locations.
